Comparison of Four Dissociated Phoria Tests: Reliability & Correlation with Symptom Survey Scores
نویسندگان
چکیده
Previous studies have found the modified Thorington test and the Howell phoria card test to be more repeatable than the von Graefe test. Another potential way to assess the value of a test could be to correlate test results with the level of symptoms. Near dissociated phorias were measured with the modified Thorington, Howell phoria card, and von Graefe procedures with 50 subjects between the ages of 18 and 35. The von Graefe test was performed with two different targets, thus making a total of four different phoria tests. All testing was performed using a phoropter. Test findings were correlated with symptom scores from a questionnaire. The means on the four tests ranged from 2.7Δexo to 3.7Δ exo. Correlations of phoria findings with symptom scores were not statistically significant for any of the four tests in subjects with exophoria. In a small number of subjects with esophoria, significant correlations were found between phoria and symptom scores for the modified Thorington test and the Howell phoria card test but not with the von Graefe test. The modified Thorington test and the Howell phoria card test were more repeatable than the von Graefe test. Goss DA, Reynolds JL, Todd RE. A pilot study of disparity vergence and near dissociated phoria in convergence insufficiency patients before vs. after vergence therapy
PURPOSE This study examined the relationship between the near dissociated phoria and disparity vergence eye movements. Convergence insufficiency (CI) patients before vergence therapy were compared to: (1) the same patients after vergence therapy; and (2) binocularly normal controls (BNC). METHODS Sixteen subjects were studied-twelve BNC and four with CI. Measurements from the CI subjects were...
متن کاملReliability and validity of the Children's Health Survey for Asthma.
OBJECTIVE Describe the psychometric properties of the Children's Health Survey for Asthma (CHSA)- a condition-specific, self-report, functional health measure for parents of children 5 to 12 years of age with chronic asthma. METHOD Data from two cross-sectional and one longitudinal study were used to assess internal consistency reliability, test-retest reliability, and validity of the CHSA. O...
متن کاملA Comparison of Dissociated Phoria Test Findings with Von Graefe Phorometry & Modified Thorington Testing
The von Graefe test has been the standard dissociated phoria test for many years. The tangent scale dissociated phoria test commonly known as the modified Thorington test is gaining in popularity. This study compared distance and near phorias obtained with the von Graefe and modified Thorington procedures in 68 young adult subjects (mean age = 24.5 years). This study also compared the +/-1.00 g...
متن کاملArticle Comparison of MKH-Haase Associated Phoria Charts with Other Common Clinical Tests
Background: The Pola Test measures associated phoria at distance and near using a variety of different targets. This testing method and interpretation is referred to as the MKH-Haase method. The aim of this study is to compare the associated phoria values measured using the MKH-Haase chart results with other associated phoria tests. Methods: Horizontal and vertical associated phorias were measu...
متن کاملAsymmetrical vertical phorias indicating dissociated vertical deviation in subjects with normal binocular vision
We measured the symmetry of phoria angles in six normal subjects. Subjects were selected on the basis of good visual acuity and stereopsis, normal binocular eye alignment and, apart from mild refraction errors, absence of ocular abnormalities. They were instructed to look at a word on a reading chart at 2 m distance. Each measurement consisted of five subsequent intervals of 5 s duration. Durin...
